Diplomacy Between Communication Crises and Crisis Communication

The diplo.news media workshop guides press attachés through the German media landscape

The need for international dialogue on media literacy is growing. Not only is the work of press attachés changing rapidly, but so is the profession of journalism. What does the future of diplomatic public relations look like? How does one navigate the German media landscape? What makes German journalists tick? How does one get a message from the ambassador across to newsrooms? How does one write a press release? How do you prepare for crises so you can react quickly when needed? How do you deal with fake news?

These and many other topics once again dominated the media workshop, which is traditionally held at the House of the Federal Press Conference, the home of diplo.news. Press attachés from foreign embassies and other diplomats, as well as local staff tasked with public relations work for embassies, are the target audience of this successful seminar series.

This time, three staff members from the British Embassy participated, as well as two diplomats from the Embassy of Mongolia and one diplomat from the Embassy of Pakistan. The speakers were Sophia Armanski from the Federal Foreign Office, where she is responsible for strategic communication and crisis prevention; Ingo Bosch, an experienced communications consultant and media trainer; Angela Wefers, a member of the Executive Board of the Federal Press Conference and a correspondent for the Börsen-Zeitung; as well as Gudrun Dometeit, editor-in-chief of diplo.news, and Ewald König, publisher of diplo.news and managing director of diplo media gmbh.

Once again, the participants received certificates for their successful participation, printed on high-security paper—the same type used for passports and banknotes—provided, as always, by the marketing partner Diletta Maschinentechnik.

Dates for the next media workshops

The next diplo.news media workshops will take place on September 9 and November 25, 2026, as always at the Federal Press Conference building in Berlin's government district. The full-day seminars are usually held in English.

Past experience shows that the media workshops fill up quickly. Registrations for the upcoming sessions are already being accepted: diplo@diplo.news
