At the request of the German Federal Government, Qatar is supporting the repatriation of a second group of Afghan offenders from the Federal Republic of Germany to Afghanistan. At least 80 Afghans who have committed criminal offenses are to be deported to their country of origin on Friday morning. This became known on Thursday evening from well-informed circles.
Since Germany has no official relations with the Taliban, Doha was asked to host a series of confidential meetings between German and Afghan representatives. The Doha talks focused on clear framework conditions for the safe return and reintegration of deportees.
In close coordination with the Afghan transitional Taliban government and the German government, the return of around 80 Afghan citizens to their country of origin was organized.
During an earlier repatriation operation last year, 28 Afghan nationals were repatriated from Germany.
