CABARET – The Berlin Musical: Theatre, Politics and the Message from the Stage

Tipi am Kanzleramt, directly next to the Federal Chancellery
September 11, 2026
15:00
An exclusive discussion for journalists, diplomats, and international multipliers regarding CABARET, its political relevance, and the impact of theater.

A conversation for journalists, diplomats and international multipliers with the theatre’s management and members of the cast

The musical CABARET is inseparably linked to Berlin. For around sixty years, its world-famous songs – including “Maybe This Time”, “Money, Money”, “Mein Herr” and “Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome” – have told a story about Berlin in the Roaring Twenties and the rise of fascism.

At the centre of the story is Sally Bowles, a nightclub performer dreaming of a career. But as the political climate changes, her plans are increasingly overshadowed by the rise of fascism. A story once rooted in a particular historical period has gained renewed relevance against the backdrop of current political developments.

What can the “messages” from a stage actually achieve? And what responsibility does theatre have when democratic values and social cohesion come under pressure?

The conversation will feature representatives of the production and members of the cast:

  • Thimo Pommerening – Rehearsal direction, artistic and production management since 2004
  • Paulina Plucinski – Former “Kit Kat Girl” and “Sally Bowles”; Dance Captain since 2022
  • Florian Stanek – “MC” since 2019
  • Helmut Mooshammer – “Herr Schultz” since 2023
  • Eric Schmidt Mohan – Owner and Managing Director since 2026
  • Sabine Wenger – Press Officer since 2001
