Germany as seen by foreign correspondents/VAP celebrates with Federal Chancellor Merz on November 16, 2026 in Berlin

Only two German states deemed the 65th anniversary of the German-Turkish labor recruitment agreement worthy of a commemorative ceremony: Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia. A grand celebration took place at Red City Hall (Rotes Rathaus). Plans are underway for a monument to guest workers and a museum of migration.
