Zambia's new banknotes are now among the safest in the world. The 10 Kwacha notes are equivalent to around 0.31 cents, 20 Kwacha around 0.62 cents (Photos: Landqart)

Recently the Central Bank of Zambia ceremonially unveiled the new Kwacha banknote series at the Mulungushi Conference Center in Lusaka. The event marks a significant milestone for Zambia's economy and its people.

The redesigned banknotes feature authentic Zambian themes, including local flora, waterfalls, and the renowned "Big Five" of African wildlife. Notably, the Kwacha 10 and Kwacha 20 banknotes have been printed on Landqart AG’s innovative Durasafe® substrate, renowned for its superior security and exceptional durability. Landqart AG is delighted that these two denominations were produced on their innovative substrate.

A highlight of the event was the symbolic opening of a vault by Zambia's Finance Minister and the Governor of the Central Bank, accompanied by a humorous performance from a local theater group. The public was informed about the free exchange process for old banknotes.

The new banknotes generated nationwide enthusiasm, evident both from the rush to ATMs and the overwhelmingly positive reactions on social media. The Central Bank explicitly thanked Landqart AG for their excellent collaboration and the high-quality Durasafe® substrate. In appreciation, Landqart presented a commemorative frame containing unprinted Kwacha 10 and Kwacha 20 notes.

The successful event underlines the strong and lasting partnership between the Central Bank of Zambia and Landqart AG.
