400 guests gathered at the Red Town Hall last Monday, where the Czech Embassy had invited them to celebrate the national holiday. It was a special day, not only for the guests but especially for the host, Czech Ambassador Jiří Čistecký, and particularly for a closely guarded guest, Israeli Ambassador Ron Prosor.

There were two rounds of thunderous applause: the first when Ambassador Čistecký mentioned the release of the Israeli hostages in his speech, and the second when Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner, as host, also referred to this.

Ambassador Prosor was invited on stage for the subsequent photo. He was heavily applauded when he lined up alongside Ambassador Čistecký, Kai Wegner (CDU) and the President of the Berlin House of Representatives, Cornelia Seibeld (CDU).

The Ambassador of the Czech Republic also paid tribute to the thirty-year city partnership between Prague and Berlin, spoke about German-Czech relations and a common Europe, which deserves courage and initiative.
