The new generation of Namibian banknotes (Namibian Dollar, NAD) are much more durable and much more secure than banknotes in other countries. This is due to an innovative substrate from Switzerland. The banknotes consist not only of conventional security paper, but of two layers of paper and a polymer layer. This paper-polymer/paper combination makes the substrate more resistant than standard paper and ensures maximum safety and exceptional durability.
The Bank of Namibia — together with the Swiss company Landqart — presented the new banknotes. With the new banknotes, Namibia is underlining its claim to secure, modern and durable means of payment.
